With a child on the way, my priorities have rather shifted this summer from hiking and rock climbing to hospital visits, large furniture stores and meeting other Mums to be. But one of the things that has really blown me away is how I suddenly notice all of the great kids’ activities that are available in and around Innsbruck. One of the best seems to be the free children’s entertainment programme at Natterer See , a lake less than 20 mins away from Innsbruck.
Natterer See is a lovely lake nestled in the beautiful alpine countryside but still conveniently close to Innsbruck. The water quality is great, making it a fantastic summer swimming spot. And I use the term “swimming” lightly because the giant water slide and other activities, from boat rental and canoeing to water volleyball and windsurfing make for all kinds of water fun for children and adults alike. And the Natterer See also offers plenty of activities for people who would rather keep their feet on dry ground, including trampolining, table tennis, beach volleyball, archery and much more. The sun worshipers amongst you will of course also find ample space for relaxing and soaking up a few rays.
But the absolute family highlight of the Natterer See is the children’s entertainment programme that runs from the beginning of June until mid-September. While you enjoy lounging in the sun, a leisurely dip or a few drinks in the lakeside restaurant, professional child minders are on hand to look after your kids. The schedule includes all sorts of fun indoor and outdoor activities, from adventure games, tournaments and magic shows to educational activities and arts & crafts.
If you’re staying in Innsbruck or one of its holiday villages, the entertainment programme is free with your guest card and will entertain your little ones from 10 am until 12 noon and from 1 pm until 5 pm. There is also the option of a supervised lunch break from 12 noon to 1 pm, which includes lunch and a drink for just € 6. It’s definitely worth checking out – rain or shine.
