There are playgrounds, and then there are mountain playgrounds. These play paradises have all the usual playground fun (swings, slides, roundabouts) but set amongst some of the most amazing Alpine scenery around. The kids can (safely) run wild while parents can simply relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape. Family days out in the mountains don’t get better than this!
Here are 3 playgrounds in incredible mountain settings that the whole family will love.
1. Zauberwasser Playground at the Muttereralm
The Muttereralm has long been a family favourite in winter. But your kids will love it just as much in summer. Just a short walk from the top station of the gondola is the adventure playground, with its tree trunks, swings and sensory barefoot paths. There’s plenty for kids of all ages, from tiny tots to pre-teens.
But the highlight is the Zauberwasser water park. This exciting part of the playground has water runs and wheels for splashing around in. Budding engineers can divert the water flow in different ways and everyone can cool down by sticking their hands/feet/head into the crystal-clear Alpine water. Bliss!
Murmelspielplatz in Gries
The Sellraintal Valley is one of the Innsbruck region’s hidden treasures. Situated just a short car or bus ride from the city centre, this natural wilderness is home to rivers, glaciers and stunning scenery in all directions.
Oh, and an amazing mountain playground! The Murmelspielplatz, or “Marmot Playground”, in the village of Gries im Sellraintal is an epic destination for all the family. Climbing, swinging and jumping are all on offer at the Murmelspielplatz, which is also conveniently located right next to the Pizzeria Marmota. Lunch, anyone?
Sulzstichhütte in Oberperfuss
Playgrounds are an excellent way of incentivizing kids to go on hikes, and the hike up to the Sulzstichhütte playground won’t disappoint. The Sulzstichhütte is set in a sunny spot in the resort of Oberperfuss. You can take the gondola up to the mid-station and then hike for about an hour (depending on the age of your kids) up to the hut.
From there, not only do you have one of the most spectacular views of the Innsbruck region, but your children can have fun racing around the pretty little mountain playground next to the hut. A day at the Sulzstichhütte is definitely one way of getting your kids to sleep at night!
