Summer in Innsbruck is hot. When it’s 35 degrees outside, and the sun is beating down, all you can think about is jumping into a nice cool pool. Luckily, Innsbruck has plenty of pools to choose from! Here are our top 5 outdoor pools in and around the Innsbruck region.

#1 Freibad Tivoli – Best For Everything

Innsbruck’s very own outdoor pool might look a little retro, but it is great for two reasons. Firstly, it’s just a short walk or bus ride from the city centre. Secondly, it has a huge 50m pool with dedicated swimming lanes and a gorgeous mountain backdrop. If you’re after some proper swimming, Tivoli is your best bet. Oh, and they have a 10m diving board.

#2 Freibad Mutters – Best For Scenery

Mutters is an adorable little village set on a plateau just above Innsbruck. And its outdoor pool offers some pretty amazing views of the valley down below. Chill out on the grass, before diving into the pool for a couple of laps or grabbing an ice cream at the cafe. There’s also a very shallow kids pool with fountains, ideal for babies and toddlers.

#3 Telfer Bad – Best For Families

For all-round family fun, head to the Telfer Bad. Located in the nearby town of Telfs, the Telfer Bad was only opened in 2018 and it has quickly become THE place to go for families. Featuring a large outdoor pool with slides, plus an indoor kids area for rainy days, you can spend a whole day at the Telfer Bad and not get bored. Mum and dad can also pop upstairs to the wellness area for some much-needed relaxation.

#4 Völser Badl – Best For Slides

Or at least, best for slide. The Völser Badl is another hilltop pool on the outskirts of Innsbruck. They have several pools, including a kids pool, and plenty of grass for sunbathing. But Völser Badl is also home to (probably) the most scenic slide in Austria. It’s not fast, but that only gives you more time to enjoy the stunning scenery all around.

#5 Freibad Inzing – Best For Peace and Quiet

However, if you want to get away from it all, head to Freibad Inzing. In some ways, Inzing isn’t particularly special: you can swim and relax on the grass like at all the other pools. But what is great about Inzing is how quiet it is. On a hot sunny day, when you can barely find a spot for your towel in Tivoli, Inzing is practically empty. Leave the kids at home, bring a book, and enjoy some well-deserved “me-time” by the pool.
